It is with great pleasure to announce that as of noon July 1st we have collected over 6,000 pounds of fruit for the community this year. That’s THREE TONS OF FOOD!
This week has been an active one with 5 houses being hit. Including the home of Sally Smith a literacy volunteer at the Monument Community Partnership who is often seen in a handicap scooter. This illustrates the duality of service that we provide by gleaning- not only do the hungry get fresh fruit, but the homes of the giver’s are often people who also need help who could not harvest their own trees.
At Sally’s there was the return of Beri Kasper and Erin McGregor to the active Picker Squadron Ranks earning make ups and Erin was able to receive an Aloe plant gift from Sally’s plentiful bounty as a way of thanks.
This morning we hit two homes of a mother and daughter with more plums and a haul of apricots. One of the discards was rather interesting and looked like a heart. We like to have fun with fruit shapes.
At the annual Bocci Tournament, 57 teams representing clubs from throughout Northern California had their eye on the championship. One of the teams fielded by the Rotary Club of Concord-Diablo braved the 100+ temperatures to make it into the top eight in the playoffs!
Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the day! Special congratulations go to:
- Al B.
- Cody S.
- Edi B.
- Karen V
- Nancy W.

The tournament was won by the Martinez Interact Bull Dogs! (Perhaps this is a testament to youth, being able to stand the heat — while keeping clear of the beers…)
Our annual Demotion Party will be held on June 30th. Contact Jim or Karen V. for more details.
The Rotary Club of Concord-Diablo will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast until 11AM, then switching to Hot Dogs for the remainder of the day. Tickets are just $5 each! Includes pancakes, sausage, and drink. After 11AM, includes hot dog and drink.
We were able to continue to keep the cost down thanks to a generous contribution from our presenting sponsor, Travis Credit Union.
Concord’s 4th of July Parade will begin at 10AM, and will be once again be hosted by Jeff Kasper and CBS 5’s Ann Noterangelo.
Members are needed from 5:30AM for setup, and to get ready for the rush after the Concord Police Officer’s Association 5K Run, sponsored by the Police Officer’s Association.
