Club Nearing 4,000 lbs!

IMAG2702No, we’re not talking about our combined weight… at least not intentionally!  Actually, we’re talking about the amount of fruit we’ve picked and donated to local food banks and pantries in Concord.

The latest venture found Edi Birsan, Edi Birsan, Jr. and Christian Warrell who picked 150 pounds of apricots, green apples, and plums on June 22, 2014.

O’Gleaning Just Short of a Ton!

IMG_0101This past weekend, Ace Picker Karen Mahshi lead a solo mission that garnered 467 pounds of grapefruit.

IMAG2218In another mission, Edi Birsan swooped in and grabbed 327 pounds of grapefruit.

Their efforts brings our 2014 “take” to just shy of a ton, or 1,999 pounds!  Way to go Karen & Edi!

Gleaning Over 850 Pounds in 2014!

Cathulu LemonsThanks to a bumper crop of Cathulu Lemons, we are at a total of 854 pounds of gleaned fruit!

Fresh fruit gleaned is donated on the same day to local food banks and pantry’s.  If you’re interested in participating in these brief (generally 1 hour) community service projects, and helping to provide fresh fruit to those in our community who are less fortunate, please sign up for our gleaning list by sending an email to: gleaning@cdrotary.org  You do not need to be a Rotarian to join the list, and projects are appropriate for all ages and skill levels.  (If you have specific access needs, please email Edi Birsan [edI@edibirsan.com] prior to going out to a project.  He will be able to confirm accessibility)

528 Pounds By MLK Holiday!

As is our tradition on holidays we try to do a community service project and to mark Martin Luther King Day, we got 188 pounds of oranges.  Cody brought his girl friend Jennifer so we have a new name for the Helper group in the Picker Squadron.

This brings our total for 2014 to 528 pounds of fresh fruit gleaned for local food banks and pantry’s.  If you’re interested in being participating in these brief (generally 1 hour) community service projects, and helping to provide fresh fruit to those in our community who are less fortunate, please sign up for our gleaning list by sending an email to: gleaning@cdrotary.org  You do not need to be a Rotarian to join the list, and projects are appropriate for all ages and skill levels.  (If you have specific access needs, please email Edi Birsan [edI@edibirsan.com] prior to going out to a project.  He will be able to confirm accessability)
